Against the Grain
A Cultural History of Swiss Independent Watchmaking
Each narrative chapter in Against the Grain is followed by a series of Cards — close readings of individual watches treated as cultural artefacts, not products. The format borrows from art criticism as much as from horology: a close reading, a specification table, and a Key Note summarising the movement’s defining innovation.

A book about independent watchmaking should look like one.
